CopticAnswers/Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 11, 2026

1. Overview

CopticAnswers (“we”, “our”, or “us”) provides a question-and-answer service grounded in Oriental Orthodox and pre-Chalcedon Alexandrian sources. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to that information.

2. Information We Collect

  • Questions you submit — the text of questions you type into the chat interface. When no approved published answer already matches, the question may be sent to Groq, OpenRouter, or Google Gemini to generate and check an answer.
  • Account information — if you create an account, we store your name and email address.
  • Usage data — standard server logs including IP address, browser type, and pages visited, retained for up to 30 days.
  • Answer feedback — votes, optional written feedback, and the related question and answer are stored for administrator review. If every answer provider is unavailable, the submitted question may also be stored in this review queue so it is not lost.
  • Translation corrections — suggested wording, optional notes, the source text, language direction, and generated translation are stored when you choose to submit a correction.
  • Abuse prevention data — a one-way hash derived from network and browser request details is kept in short-lived counters. Raw IP addresses are not stored in those counters.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To generate AI responses to your theological questions.
  • To maintain your account and session history (if signed in).
  • To improve the reliability and accuracy of the service.
  • We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

Depending on availability, questions and generated answers may be processed by Groq, OpenRouter, or Google Gemini. Their terms and privacy policies govern their processing. We do not intentionally send account identifiers with model requests.

Google states that Gemini API free-tier inputs and outputs may be used to improve its products. Do not submit confidential, identifying, counseling, confession, medical, or other sensitive personal information in a question.

5. Data Retention

Chat history is stored only in your browser session unless you are signed in and have opted in to history saving. Feedback submissions and provider-capacity queue entries are stored for administrator review. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.

6. Cookies

We use only essential session cookies required for authentication. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
